Vigilante

vigilanteIn 2001 two of my school friends were undeservedly attacked by a vicious thug, eventually he was sentenced for his crime but throughout the time after the attack there was a voice inside of me that wanted more, that felt he deserved worse – the voice became written word – the anger that filled my mind was channelled and became ‘Vigilante’, a normal man – transformed by hate.

It was merely a title and a few ideas to begin and then in 2002 (after dropping out of University) it flew into 10,000 words. Unfortunately, as with most writers I’m informed, the passion stopped, the novel was put to one side – the inspiration had been put on the back-burner.

Many times I picked it back up, caught up but there was no flow, no drive.

Fortunately I’ve ‘got back on the horse’ so to speak – I picked it back up, plodded to begin and then sprinted to the end of Chapter 4, 14,000 words strong.

I’m trying to build a readership, take on the feedback and move forward with the novel. If you like what you read below please e-mail me and I’ll happily let you sample the first chapter.

I wake to the taste of dried blood in my mouth; it does not disgust me. Last night was the beginning, the start of the new me. Whether or not this transformation is for the best or worst remains to be seen. Only a series of tomorrows will determine this. I roll onto my side and look towards the floor, a foreign wallet glares back at me, squinting through its bloodstained vision. I am not sure what is worse, the deed I have performed or the guilt I am failing to acknowledge.”.
